W. E. Souter 1872 - 1948

The death of Mr Souter of Hyndland, Queen Road, Ryde at the age of 76 years was announced on Thursday 15th June after a very short illness. He came from a farming family and was the second son of the late Mr. William Souter who owned Wootton Mill.

His great-grandfather was at one stage was a miller at Upton [Ryde] where he worked the windmill. For many years he was employed by his father and later by his brother Mr. L. J. Souter C.C. at Wootton Mill.

In 1924 he took over Fernhill Farm, Wootton from where he retired in 1942.

He was a churchwarden at St. Mark’s and a sidesman at St. Edmunds Church both situated in Wootton.

The church service was held at All Saints Church, Ryde the interment at Ryde Cemetery, the chief mourners were is wife, son and daughter.
