About Wootton Bridge Historical
The concept behind the creation of the web site is, and has always been, the preservation of village history, later this changed to incorporate Island history.
When the senior citizens of today have gone to greener pastures, there will be no one around to explain how things were to the younger generation.
Due to the overriding impact of modern technology little thought is currently given to how things were and how they impacted on current day living.
In 2003 with these concepts in mind the two creators of this web site decided there was a need to preserve the history of the village in a format, which was accessible to the younger generation, namely a web site.
Initially getting the project off the ground was difficult, there was a lack of information and photographs of the area, and to a certain extent this is still the case. A few books on specific subjects about the village existed, but no overall record, our aim was to rectify this omission.
As a result of feedback over the life of the web site, the original concept of the village of Wootton Bridge has evolved and the site now covers the whole Island. Many associated subjects of historical content have also been added to the site, using the medium of the Internet this information is also available for researchers in County Records Offices.
We will continue to collect and preserve pictures and articles as they become available. If you can contribute to this project we would be pleased to receive information from you.
