Church of St George

Burma Star Memorial Window

There has been a close association between St George’s and the Isle of Wight Branch of the Burma Star Association since the late 1970’s when the Revd. F. J. Chase, a member of the Association was Priest-in-charge. The window was designed by Alan Younger, made by David Knowles of Oxted, Surrey, and Stone masons: Mr David Hailstone and Mr David Crouch of Wight Stonemasonry, Chale, and installed in the south wall of church, comprising of three light memorial windows. Funded by public subscription of £14,000. At a dedication Countess Mountbatten of Burma unveiled the window on Tuesday 12th May 1992.

The cabinet below the window contains a Roll of Honour listing 272 Burma veterans.
