Victory Parties were held throughout the country in town and village. This picture captures those celebrating outside Carisbrooke Rest Centre (the Church Hall). Were you there? No doubt there are many Carisbrooke residents who have memories of this event.
Many of the children pictured would have been members of the local schools - may be the Infant School on Clatterford Road (now the Clatterford Centre) or the Junior School which stood on the corner of Calbourne Road and School Lane.
Carisbrooke Infant School was built in 1839 by the Misses A and C Gunter for 80 pupils and was later extended. In 1900 under the Headship of Miss Kate Jarrett, Nellie Attrill became a teacher.

Carisbrooke Junior School was built in the late 1870's. The two schools were combined to form Carisbrooke Primary School in 1970 under the Headship of Mrs Rosamond Pratt.
The new Carisbrooke Primary School is situated in Wellington Road.
