Carisbrooke in Times Past

Sunday School Anniversary 1908

St. Mary's Sunday School thrived. Each year the Anniversary was celebrated. The 1908 anniversary seems to have coincided with the Harvest Festival.

The Castle

The Castle stands across the valley - an imposing sight. Keats wrote "I do not think I shall ever see a ruin to surpass Carisbrooke Castle". It is steeped in history. King Charles was imprisoned here.

The moat is crossed by a stone bridge. There is plenty to see ... the Chapel of St. Nicholas, the well house ... the massive old keep giving a commanding view of the rest of the castle, the famous bowling green and the surrounding countryside.
