Ningwood
The manor of Ningwood was given in 1125 by Peter de Oglander to the convent of Christchurch, Twynham, of which he was Dean. Henry VIII granted the estate to Thomas Hopson, in exchange for the manor of Marylebone. In 1627 Hopson's grandson was appointed Captain and leader of the company of Ningwood.
The present house was built in the 18th century, when the manor was occupied by Sir John Pinhorn. It now belongs to the R.S.P.C.A., the fields and stables providing a home of rest for old horses.
