Village history

This is a picture of Edmund Brading [1849-1912] and his wife Eva Eunice [1853-1927]. One assumes the picture was taken around time of their marriage around 1877.

Edmund was for many years the headmaster of the National School in New Road, Wootton Bridge and lived at the Lindens [next to the Ceders Public House] in Station Road.

Football sessions

The Young People Service Network are running a series of football evenings on Fridays for anyone between the ages of 11 and 19 years old [male/female].

The sessions take place at Ryde Sports Centre, cost is a £1.00 per session.

For those aged between 11-14 years the sessions are timed at 5.30 to 6.30 pm and between 15-19 yeass will follow at 6.30 until 7.30pm.

Mardi Gras and Ryde Arts Festival

On Saturday 27th June there will be a Midsummer Mardi Gras in Ryde.

Tennis lessons in Ryde

Ryde Lawn Tennis Club are running a series of beginners sessions on Monday lunchtime at the club.

Anyone wanting to learn or try out the game, can receive 5 sessions for £3.50, this is part of the Isle of Wight “Be Active Campaign”

New Community Garden Centre in Wootton

Care in the garden

A new well stocked garden center has opened at the junction of Park Road and Lushington Hill in Wootton Bridge.

It is run by the charity “Care in the garden” and offers training to allow people to achieve a placement in horticulture. Pop along there is plenty of stock available and advice is on hand.

Next board meeting St Mary’s Hospital

The next board meeting at St Mary’s hospital, Newport, Isle of Wight, will be held on Wednesday 3rd June.

Venue will be the School of Health Studies, South Block at the hospital, Start time will be 10.00am.

Spring fair

A Spring Fare is being organised by Breathe Easy charity to raise money towards a ultra sound scanner for the respiratory department in the new Appley Ward which is due to open shortly at St Mary’s Hospital.

The event will be staged at Newport Parish Hall, Town Lane, Newport on Saturday 30th May from 11.00am until 3.00pm

There will be a selection of stalls together with tombola, a raffle, games for children home made cakes and jewellery.
