Wootton

Development At Wootton 1937

Since the Fernhill estate has been on the market, residents of Wootton have felt some anxiety concerning the possible developments of the beautiful parkland and views from the bridge overlooking the mill pond when full. The development is now in the hands of Mr E H Ayre of Sandown who has secured the water rights of the tidal pond covering some 34 acres between woodland and meadow. It is his intention to maintain the water level from the fortnightly spring tides and develop a large pleasure boating lake with all types of craft. Residents are hoping he will exclude power craft with unsilenced motors.

Mr Ayre’s is to allow the public by letting them use and enjoy the delights of the boating in harmony with the area.
